La Federazione Abruzzese di Hamilton e Distretto è stata fondata nel 1987.

Gli obiettive principali di questa Federazione sono quelli di riunire e rappresentare I club e associazioni abruzzesi e tutte le persone di discendenza abruzzese. Inoltre si promette di tutelare, difendere e potenziare in ogni campo il retaggio abruzzese, di riunire gli abruzzesi in attività è funzioni ricreative, sociali, culturali, folcloristiche, religiose, e sportive.

 

Ha il compito di facilitare e promuovere contatti e scambi culturali e commerciali con la Regione Abruzzo, con la Confederazione Abruzzese Canada Inc. e con altre federazioni, club e associazioni abruzzesi in Italia, in Canada e nel mondo, e di facilitare le relazioni tra club e associazioni abruzzesi residenti in questo distretto, con la Confederazione Abruzzese e la Regione Abruzzo.

In questi quindici  anni di vita, la Federazione Abruzzese di Hamilton e Distretto è stata molto attiva.Vogliamo ricordare alcune tappe importanti di questi quindici anni di vita.

 

Nel 1990 organizza insieme alla Federazione Abruzzese di Toronto, il primo Convegno Nazionale degli Abruzzesi in Canada che si svolge in tre giorni, di cui due a Toronto ed uno ad Hamilton.

Nel 1992, sempre in collaborazione con la Federazione Abruzzese di Toronto, organizza il secondo convegno Nazionale che si tiene in Toronto nei giorni 16, 17, 18 Ottobre.  Partecipa attivamente al terzo Convegno Nazionale di Montreal il 29, 30, 31 Marzo 1996 con 12 delegati in rappresentanza dei vari clubs e associazioni affiliati alla Federazione.  Nell’ Agosto del 1998 organizza a Niagara Falls la pre-conferenza dell’emigrazione Abruzzese per Australia, Canada, USA.

 

Nel Settembre del 1992, dopo tanti mesi di lavoro, programmando e organizzando un gemellaggio con sei comuni abruzzese.  La Federazione ha ricevuto I sindaci di Castiglione Casauria, Gagliano Aterno, Pacentro, Pettorano Sul Gizio, Pratola Peligna, Villetta Barrea per firmare il documento di gemellaggio.

Nel Settembre del 1993, su invito della Federazione è stato ospite della citta di Hamilton, Sua Eccellenza Giuseppe Di Falco, vescovo della Diocesi di Sulmona.  Circa 600 persone presenti alla celebrazione della messa presso la chiesa di S’Antonio, la "Cattedrale" della comunita italiana di Hamilton.

A livello culturale, la federazione ha dato il suo sostegno sia morale che finanziario al Coro Folkloristico della Federazione, che in oltre dodici anni di vita, oltre che esebirsi in Hamilton e dintorni, si e esebito anche a Montreal, Niagara Falls, al Canada Wonderland durante il super week-end italiano organizzato dalla CHIN Radio International, e nel prossimo Ottobre (2002) èstato richiesto per partecipare alle festività del Columbus Day in Boston.

 

Inoltre in questi anni, ha ospitato I Solisti Teatini due volte (si sono esebiti anche per il Papa) il Gruppo Teatrale Amatoriale di Luco dei Marsi, il Gruppo Teatrale "La Santarella" di Avezzano, il Gruppo Teatrale "La Bottega del Sorriso" di Teramo, il Coro della Portella dell’Aquila, e il noto cabarettista abruzzese, N’Duccio. 

 

Molte le delegazioni politiche provenienti dall’abruzzo ospitate dalla Federazione, la ultima quella capeggiata dal presidente della Giunta Regionale Onorevole Giovanni Pace.

The Abruzzese Federation of Hamilton and District was founded in 1987. The main objectives of this Federation are to bring together and represent the Abruzzese clubs and associations and all people of Abruzzese descent. Furthermore, it promises to protect, defend and enhance in every field the Abruzzese heritage, to bring together the Abruzzese in recreational, social, cultural, folkloristic, religious and sporting activities and functions. It has the task of facilitating and promoting contacts and cultural and commercial exchanges with the Abruzzo Region, with the Abruzzese Confederation Canada Inc. and with other Abruzzese federations, clubs and associations in Italy, Canada and in the world, and to facilitate relations between Abruzzese clubs and associations residing in this district, with the Abruzzese Confederation and the Abruzzo Region. In these fifteen years of life, the Abruzzese Federation of Hamilton and District has been very active. We would like to remember some important stages of these fifteen years of life. In 1990, together with the Abruzzese Federation of Toronto, it organized the first National Convention of the Abruzzese in Canada which took place over three days, two in Toronto and one in Hamilton. ​ In 1992, again in collaboration with the Abruzzese Federation of Toronto, it organized the second National Convention which was held in Toronto on 16, 17, 18 October. It actively participated in the third National Convention in Montreal on 29, 30, 31 March 1996 with 12 delegates representing the various clubs and associations affiliated with the Federation. In August 1998, it organized the pre-conference of Abruzzese emigration to Australia, Canada, and the USA in Niagara Falls.

In September 1992, after many months of work, planning and organizing a twinning with six municipalities in Abruzzo. The Federation received the mayors of Castiglione Casauria, Gagliano Aterno, Pacentro, Pettorano Sul Gizio, Pratola Peligna, Villetta Barrea to sign the twinning document. ​ In September 1993, at the invitation of the Federation, His Excellency Giuseppe Di Falco, bishop of the Diocese of Sulmona, was a guest of the city of Hamilton. About 600 people attended the celebration of the mass at the church of S’Antonio, the "Cathedral" of the Italian community of Hamilton. ​ At a cultural level, the federation has given both moral and financial support to the Federation Folklore Choir, which in over twelve years of life, in addition to performing in Hamilton and the surrounding area, has also performed in Montreal, Niagara Falls, at Canada Wonderland during the Italian super weekend organized by CHIN Radio International, and next October (2002) was asked to participate in the Columbus Day festivities in Boston. In addition, in these years, it has hosted I Solisti Teatini twice (they also performed for the Pope), the Luco dei Marsi Amateur Theater Group, the "La Santarella" Theater Group of Avezzano, the "La Bottega del Sorriso" Theater Group of Teramo, the Portella dell’Aquila Choir, and the well-known Abruzzese cabaret artist, N’Duccio.  Many political delegations from Abruzzo have been hosted by the Federation, the last one led by the President of the Regional Council, the Honorable Giovanni Pace. ​
